Deep Commentary

When an evil deed has not yet matured, a foolish person often mistakenly believes that the law of cause and effect does not exist or is flawed. Karmic retribution operates across the past, present, and future. While some actions yield immediate results, others take time to ripen. A wrongdoer might temporarily evade consequences and perceive their actions as 'sweet as honey,' but this is merely because their negative karma has not yet reached maturity. According to the timeless teachings, even after hundreds of thousands of eons, the karma we create never fades away; when the right conditions converge, the fruit must be gathered. Karma follows us inevitably, just as a shadow follows its form. No matter how far one flees, the impartial cosmic law of karma cannot be deceived. When the unwholesome seeds fully ripen, the individual must inevitably endure the bitterest suffering. Understanding this prevents us from being negligent in our practice and encourages us to continuously sow wholesome seeds.
