Faint is the fragrance of tagara and sandal, but excellent is the fragrance of the virtuous, waf ting even amongst the gods.
Faint is the fragrance of tagara and sandal, but excellent is the fragrance of the virtuous, wafting even amongst the gods.
Deep Commentary
The meaning of this verse is quite similar to the preceding ones. Here, the Buddha once again compares different types of fragrances. No matter how exquisite or wonderful the scent of certain woods or flowers may be, it can never be compared to the fragrance of a virtuous person. Only the scent of virtue can waft upwards, reaching even the celestial realms.
