Deep Commentary
This verse is associated with Venerable Revata, the youngest brother of Sariputta. Arranged to be married at the age of seven, he saw a 120-year-old woman at his wedding and suddenly realized the inevitable suffering of aging and decay. He fled the wedding to become a monk and eventually attained Arahantship, choosing to live in a harsh, thorny acacia forest. When other monks criticized his living conditions, the Buddha explained that an enlightened being finds true peace anywhere. While beginners on the spiritual path often seek quiet, secluded places to calm their minds, those who have eradicated mental defilements carry their peace within. In today's chaotic and noisy world, this teaches us that ultimate happiness depends entirely on the purity of the mind, not the external environment.
